Autumn at Rutland Water: Stunning Colors, Northern Lights & Festive Finds
Welcome to Puddle Cottage and Snowdrop Cottage near Rutland Water! With November bringing mild weather, we’re catching our breath after a busy spring and summer and getting everything cozy for winter stays—chimney sweeping, log deliveries, and preparing for the season.
October’s Beautiful Autumn Colours in Rutland
October treated Rutland to spectacular autumn colors, thanks to our wet summer, enhancing the landscape around Rectory Lane and our cottages. Enjoying the colorful foliage is one of the best things about autumn here!
Breakfast at Fika, Oakham: A Hidden Gem
During a recent trip to Fika in Oakham, we enjoyed an Apple Crumble Yogurt Bowl that was as delicious as it was beautiful. Tucked away on Mill Street, Fika is perfect for a cosy autumn morning. With vanilla bean Greek yogurt, apple compote, cinnamon, and pecan granola, it’s a local favourite and well worth a visit.
On October 10th, we were also lucky to experience the Northern Lights over Rutland Water. With low air pollution, the sky was incredibly clear, creating a magical display over the water. This photo was taken by the wonderfully talented Richard – check out his work on Facebook “Richard in Rutland” for stunning photos from that night—prints are also available!
